Thursday Night Fireworks

Many years ago, we had a dog named Belle.  She always hated New Year's Eve and the 4th of July.  The fireworks would freak her out.  I am currently trying yo get Elana to sleep.  It sounds like they are setting the fireworks right outside our window.  Luckily, she has not paid much attention.  Who knows how it will be near 12:00.

A Long Day

We are still out running around.  After eating, we we to an outlet store in Orlando.  If you ever visit and go to the outlet stores, you will find where all the tourists go.  It took 15 minutes to find a parking spot.  We went through the Disney store.  They were just getting rid of 2015 stuff and generic clothing they could not sell in the parks.  Then, Angie wanted to go to a Vera Bradley store to use a certificate.  Now, we are leaving BJ's after getting some food.  Next up, Interstate 4.  It should be like driving in China during rush hour.  Unfortunately, it is the same direction as Universal and Disney.  Everyone is heading there for New Year's parties.

Taking a Swim in Florida?

Before you take a swim in fresh water in Florida, look around.  There may be a guest in the water.  We were at the Sonny's off of 95.  To the side was a water runoff area.  They build these all over the state.  This one had a fence.  Right in the middle was a baby alligator.

A New Food

After Kayla's, we stopped by Sonny's BBQ.  They had adeal that if you gave them a review on Yelp, you could get a free fried Okra.  I quickly got out my phone and did a review.  When the food got to the table, the girls tried some.  Elana actually liked it.  She ate many bites of it.  Michelle liked it, but did not like the seeds.  Even Mia ate some.  Haley spit it out.  Kiersten did not bother to try it.

Kayla's Progress

We went to Kayla's monthly meeting.  She is doing great.  They are preparing to get her ready to step down to a smaller facility.  It will be closer to home.  Angie still needs to visit the facility.  They will add her to a waiting list.  This is great news.

Made it Through the Night

Elana made it through the night.  She did move a little.  She managed to get a good night's sleep.

Pearly Whites

The dentist was a quick in and out affair.  I did have x-rays.  Then, he did the part I hate the most, the poking and prodding.  That led to a polishing and a quick floss.  At least, there was no mention of crowns, other than asking about the last one that had to be replaced.

Welcome to the Dead Zone!

I am working the day before New Year's Eve.  It is a ghost town.  I bet if I went to eat out today, I could come back and get the same parking spot.  I might leave early, but I don't know if it would be worth it.  I do have a dentist appointment.  Hopefully, it is just a cleaning.  I don't want to hear the word Crown.  The drive home may not be that bad, since so many people take off today.

5:20 AM!

Elana decided that she wanted to play for a little tonight.  My alarm goes off at 5:30.  I'm pretty sure she finally went back to sleep around 5:20.  At 5:30, she did not budge.  I hope this part does not become a habit.

It's 3:00 AM and I Know Where My Child Is

3:00 AM.  Elana is wide awake.  I changed her earlier tonight.  Now I am guessing she is just waking out of habit.  Hopefully, she will go back to sleep.  I asked if she planned to.  Her response: nah.

May the Force be with Imax

This week, Imax broke a record, in addition to Star Wars records.  It made $100M faster than it did with Jurassic World.  Next up is China.  They have a huge amount of Imax screens.  I just wish this news would increase stock value.  It is going the opposite direction.

A Jump Ahead

When I got home today, I brought Elana out on our trampoline.  Michelle asked why.  I told her that she likes to come out here.  She likes to see the sun.  She does bounce her body.  Eventually, she stand and jump. She has to get used to it.

Death of a Basketball Player

When I was a kid, my father took us to see the Harlem Globetrotters.  It was a really fun experience.  He even went out of his way to get an autograph for us.  Over the years, I would catch them on TV.  I may have also brought my girls, but I can not remember.  I was saddened to see that Meadowlark Lemon had died.  I looked to see if he was on the team when we saw him as children, but he was not.

A New Place to Sleep

Haley has a new room to sleep in.  She had been sleeping on a mattress in our living room.  The main problem she has is that she does not go to sleep.  She like to crawl around.  She moves fast.  I would describe her crawl to be crab like.  She is getting really good at using her legs.  She still can not walk.  We moved a crib into the master bedroom.  This way, we can keep her confined in one place while she sleeps.  She did manage to sleep a little, last night.

Hateful Eight Screening

Of course, I saw the 70MM showing of this movie.  It was really good.  It was a mixture of Reservoir Dogs meets Django Unchained.  I was looking at movie sites and I see where some shows were plagued with issues.  Our show ran perfectly.  I guess other theaters were not ready to show the movie on film.  Believe me, I know how easy it is to mess up film.  If not threaded correctly, all sorts of issues can happen.  It can scratch the film, snap the film, burn the film, etc.  Once there is damage, the film does not run the same or it just looks bad.

Catching On

I've talked about panhandling in the past.  One area I pass every day has the same people standing at two corners.  I have even seen them group together.  On that day, I was wondering if they were having an Employee's Meeting.  I guess others have grown tired of their panhandling.  The other day, I was driving by the section.  No one was at the corner.  Posted up high on a light pole was a sign that warned people not to give money to these people and called what they were doing a scam.  The sign did not last long, but I have not seen anyone there lately.

An Unexpected Surprise

I had written about my daughters staying up late during their break.  Every day, I or someone has to shut off an alarm that Michelle has set.  She even claimed to have turned it off the other day.  I had to tell her that I had turned it off.  This morning, her alarm started its beeping.  I went back to turn it off.  To my amazed eyes, Michelle was actually getting up to turn off her own alarm.  I asked her who it was.  She said Michelle.  I told her that I did not think Michelle woke up until 10.  I later found out that she went to bed early last night.

The Witching Hour

Elana woke up again at 3:00.  This is becoming a habit for her.  She wets her diaper.  After changing, she does not go back to sleep.  She starts playing with toys and working on her talking skills.  I try to encourage her to go back to sleep.  Eventually, she does.  I just wish I could encourage using the bathroom, but I have to wait until she starts potty training.  I tried once to put her on a baby toilet.  She freaked out.

Winter Break

My daughters have been having a ball.  They have been staying up late and waking up late.  They will have a rude awakening in a week.  Elana has managed to stay in her sleep schedule.  Of course, she did wake up at 3:00 this morning.  I convinced her to go back to sleep.

They have been playing with their toys.  They have also been running errands with Angie.  When possible, eatch movies I got for Christmas.

One Holiday Down, One to Go

Back at work.  Christmas vacation went by too quickly.  I did get to do things with my daughters and see a movie I have been waiting for.  Next up is New Year's.  I really don't find that to be much of a holiday.  It's not like China.  When they celebrate their New Year's, they go all out.  We only got to see the tail end of it.  In our country, it seems to be about party's, with alcohol, and football.  After Concussion, I don't really want to see football.  On New Year's night, I will probably be in bed by 8:00.  I used to stay up to watch the ball drop.  It has gotten really annoying.  I'm not really a fan of lip synching music groups.  I can catch the ball dropping the next day.  I just hope that the fireworks do not wake Elana.

Snow and Ice Show

Harbin, China is preparing for their annual snow and ice show.  I keep seeing articles about it.  This year, they are building a huge building out of ice.  Keep an eye out for it in the news.  One of these years, we hope to visit during the event.

Cleaning Day

I am trying to help clean.  Elana does not like me doing anything.  Every time I get up, she screams.  I did take apart a crib.  I have help bring the many pieces of clothes out to the living room.  I feel like I have made a small dent in our mess.  Elana is gone, I need to try to do something else.

Mia's Emoji Face

Yesterday, Mia's sisters got emoji pillows.  She decided at that moment that she decided she wanted one too.  Angie went on Amazon and let her pick one out.  If you want one, check it out.  If you have Prime, you can get one for about 5.00 with free shipping.  It did take some time.  It came from Hong Kong.  Later, she showed us her emoji pillow.

Old Style Movie Presentation

The Hateful Eight was presented like an old fashioned movie.  The movie begins with a red screen and orchestra music.  Then, it fades into our story.  I did not have to sit through 8-10 previews.  After two hours, the movie has Intermission on the screen and the lights go up.  In addition to these things, they also had programs.  Overall, this is a great movie.  It is worth paying for, I did.

A Custom Job

When I started in theaters, they had a 70MM projector.  I got to work with Far And Away.  It was three times the size of 35MM.  Now I am getting ready for The Hateful Eight.  Our projectionist is answering questions.  He said the projector had to be installed.  The corporation asked him to run the shows.  The theaters are used to digital.

Elana and Haley' s First Christmas

It started out with screams from Elana.  Haley was still asleep due to having a rough night.  Elana would not open anything.  Fast forward to tonight.  Elana has had two gifts open.  She hit the ball once or twice.  She got a light up/musical bee.  She is still playing with it.  Haley has opened some stuffed animals and a pillow pet.  She seems happy with it.

End of the Marathon

I had planned to see Sisters on Wednesday.  A better opportunity opened up.  The Hateful Eight is playing in Orlando and is in 70 MM.  I am a big f as n of the directors.  This will be my last film in a theater for the year.  I'll have to wait for sneaks to start up next year.

Good Night's Sleep

I had a good night's sleep.  Everyone else stayed up late.  For the girls, they were excited.  They were. Also assisting with the wrapping.  I did not have much to wrap.  I usually take care of Angie's gifts.  She does the rest.  Between the two of us, we did not ask for much.  Now the girls are asleep and we are about to see Kayla.

Who Knew!

Michelle got a special gift today.  Santa gave her a box of Nerds.  He must sense something that she refuses to admit.  She won't pose with her candy.

Screaming in the Yuletide

Elana made it through her first Christmas.  She did so in my lap screaming the whole time.  I did find something to interest her.  Wrapping paper.  She played with that.  When I gave her a toy to play with, she would get upset.  Hopefully she will open some later.

Merry Christmas!

The girls are getting up.  Time to open presents.  Elana is not waking all that fast.  She keeps giving out screams.  Merry Christmas to all!

Christmas in China

When we went to get Michelle, it was in December.  I don't remember many decorations.  I do remember the hotel had a Santa in the lobby.  From the many articles from China, it seems they are embracing Santa more.

A New Feeling

I brought some of the girls shopping.  I just wanted to get them out of the house.  At the mall, we found a comic book store.  I went in to look.  I even pointed out The Walking Dead to Michelle.  She responded that she was starting to feel like a nerd.  After, she said she had to leave the store because she did not want her friends to see her.

First Day of Winter, Break out the Shorts!

We celebrated our first day of winter and I wanted to wear shorts.  Our air conditioner is running.  The sad thing is that it just does not feel like Christmas this year.  Maybe the spirit of the Grinch is in my body.  I did not really know what to ask for for gifts.  I just hope my daughters have a good one.  I hope next year, it will be a more festive time.

Star Wars A Trip Back

Sitting in the theater waiting for Star Wars.  They are actually checking tickets before entering the theater.  We never had to do that.  I guess the bigger the theater, the more you have to check. Stay tuned for my spoiler free review.

Here is my review.  I figured I'd change this post a little.  I was having troubles getting the post to upload at the theater.  When I got home, I realized I had about 7 drafts and two of the same posts.

It was an amazing movie.  It took me back to when I saw the original trilogy in the theaters.  It hits you when the Star Wars logo appears and the crawl begins.  They did an excellent job integrating the old movies into the new ones.  It will be a movie that fans will go back to for a second or third viewing.  The new actors were great and it was good to see some old faces.  After you watch the film, check out the cameos on the web.  It's pretty interesting.  JJ Abrams does nod a lot to the past movies.  Look for those scenes, as well as dialogue.  I look forward to the future movies.  Now to see if there are any toys I might want.

The Force has Awoken

I Must be in the Front Row (My Review of Concussion)

That statement reminds me of the Bob Uecker commercials when I was younger.  Unfortunately, it's not so great when your seats are in the front row of a movie theater.  They held our sneak of Concussion in one of the smaller theaters.  I was not right in the front, but close enough.

The movie was great.  Will Smith does an excellent job.  Gugu Mbath-Raw did a great job as a women who becomes the wife of Will Smith's character.  I saw her in a film in 2014 called Belle.  If you have not seen this movie, you need to check it out.  I did not know if I'd like this movie, but it was really good.  Rumor has it that Gugu Mbath-Raw may be joining Star Wars Episode 8.  I hope so.  She is a really talented actress.

After seeing this movie, I would not be rushing to have my sons play football.  That is if I had sons.  My question would be what is it worth?

I want to add one last thing.  I try not to go to much into the movies.  I hate reviews that spell out everything.  For most you either want to see it or not.  Maybe my review might push you if you are undecided.  I don't like to know much about a movie before seeing it, so I don't want to do the same to people who might want to.

At the movie, we had one of the regulars in line.  He fashions himself a film critic.  He was in rare form.  He was on a rant about Sisters.  What made his rant so funny is that he sounded like George Costanza from Seinfeld.  He was very excited about how much he hated the movie.  I had to hear his rant three times.

Concussion

Tonight's the big night.  Hopefully it will be good and not feel like I have been through a concussion watching it.  I'm wondering if there will be a lot of people going to see it?  Being Christmas break and Star Wars is already in theaters.  I will be back later with a review.  It may have to wait until tomorrow.  The movie starts at 7:30 and is probably at least 2 hours.

Movie Marathon

It looks like I will be seeing a couple of movies this week.  Tonight is Concussion.  Tomorrow, Angie and I plan to see Star Wars.  Finally, I have a ticket I have to use before it expires.  I was thinking about Sisters.  Check back if you want to see if they are worth your time.

Making My Office Feel Lived In

I came into work early, so I could do a little decorating.  I brought in some of my toys/collectibles.  I brought in my diplomas to hang on the wall.  I still need the family pictures to make it complete.  I have added a mixture of Star Wars and other film characters on my bookshelf.  It will be interesting to see how people react.  Also, I plan to bring in a plant or two.

Riding in a Vehicle with a Blaring System

Elana is not fond of driving around town.  Going to Kayla' s drives her crazy.  She is not the only one.  While driving, she will let out timed screams the whole trip.  I have tried feeding her snacks, but that only lasts for as long as you have food to give her.  Today, I gave up.  I unbuckled and moved her to the back row.  I re buckled and got my belt on.  She started to scream again. I started massaging her feet.  She finally stopped.  When I got tired, I took a break.  Elana had other plans.  She grabbed my arms and put them on her feet.

A Sip of the Straw

Haley took a big step yesterday.  She actually sipped through the straw.  She has had some phobia of drinking.  We think the other family may have forced her.  We will never know.  She is making amazing progress.  It will be great when she finally sees a doctor.  Hopefully, she can get the help she needs.

A Walk Around the Park

I am trying to loose weight.  I know, it's nearing the end of the year.  Everyone turns to weight loss.  I really want to lose the weight.  I decided to go to the park to exercise.  It was a cool day.  I enjoyed it.  Next time, I think I will bring daughter's.

Dance the Night Away

Tonight, I am attending Michelle's dance recital.  There are about 6 girls in her class.  Before the actual dance, they ran through it 3 times.  Michelle did a great job.  Now, we are sitting through the other classes.

One Of Those Days

Christmas is closing in.  Fewer people were at work.  Many of my co-workers got to see Star Wars last night.  I hope to see it, but I do not know when.  I did get tickets to Concussion for Monday.  It looks interesting.  This weekend, I want to gather things to put in my office.  That will take some time, since I have to pull out the ladder.

It's Raining Again! (Think Supertramp song)

It's raining in Orlando.  With that, everyone has forgotten how to drive.  Or they forgot they can not drive like they normally do on wet roads.  Luckily, I made it to work with time to spare.  That does not always happen on days like this.  I think things are going to get worse, but I am safely in my chair with thoughts of work dancing in my head.

Haley's Paperwork II

So, it seems that we got some of her information from the other family.  They are still holding pertinent information.  This information may be needed to get her citizenship paperwork and social security.  I just don't get why someone would hold information that has nothing to do with their life or their families.  They gave up their rights over her.  In doing so, they should relinquish her information.  That is a part of her history and a timeline of her trip from China to America.

The Big Short Sort of Review

I went to see The Big Short.  It was a really good movie, with great performances.  It is a film about the financial collapse of the housing market.  The director tells the story using satire.  One of my favorite parts is when they would describe financial technical terms, he would cut away to a celebrity to explain what the term meant.  Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, and the rest of the cast did a great job.  I think of it as kind of a cautionary tale.  They show us how it happened and how it may happen again.  Check it out.

Short Line at The Big Short

It's after 5:30 and there are 6 people here.  A screening opened for Ride Along 2.  It is at Universal Studios theater.  You have to pay to park.  I'm not paying to park to see a movie.  I think they charge close to $20 or whatever people going to the theme park have to pay.

New Star Wars Game

Want to play a game?  Anyone recognize that quote?  It's from War Games.  Google has created a new game that works with your cell phone and your computer.  I watched a demo at a friend's desk.  It was pretty cool looking.  Try it out.  It works with the Chrome search engine.

Movie Drought

It has been awhile since I have gone to the movie theater.  There is not much sneaking.  The few that have, I don't care to see or did not get a ticket.  Tonight, a little rain will fall.  I have a ticket to see The Big Short.  I think it will be pretty good.  I plan to see Star Wars, but who knows when that will happen.  I'm hoping some more sneaks will open.  I want to see The Revnant and The Hateful Eight.

At the Dentist with Kiersten

Kiersten had her braces taken off the other day.  Now she is visiting the dentist.  I tried to go back with her, but she said no.  They asked if she had allergies. I told them she was allergic to not talking.

She survived.  But, we have to come back in two months for a filling.

Idiots on Parade

I finally get to post.  This morning was bad for traffic.  I even left early.  Right before getting on I4, we had a twenty minute wait.  All because some idiot had to run a light and get t-boned.  Then, 4 was slow.  I found that there was another accident near my work.  Luckily, I made it on time.  Life in Orlando.

Elana's New Skill

Elana is getting so close to forming words.  She will sit there and jabber in baby talk.  One impressive thing she does is to mimic her sisters.  She is picking up words and things from Haley and Mia.  She also sounds like them when she does it.  Angie said the other day, Mia was asking if you are hungry.  That is her way of telling us she is hungry.  When Angie went to get the food, she did not see Mia.  She was in the bedroom.  It was Elana.  Last night, we heard Haley cry out.  We turned to find out that it was Elana.

A Room with a View

I moved into my new office today.  That is why I did not post.  My computer was detached when I got into work.  I think I have the office the way I want it.  I just need some things from home.  I'm planning a family picture and a Star Wars one of my daughters.  I want to add some plants.  Angie says that I can add some of my collectibles.  I don't know about a movie poster, though.  I'd have to have the right one.  I don't want it to get bleached out from the light.

1000th Post and Counting!

I started writing this, it was for Kiersten's adoption. I guess I was not as motivated as I wanted to be.  It also didn't help that China stops anyone from blogging.  I decided that I would pick it up again.  At first, I had to come up with a writing style.  I kept wanting to write first this happen, then this.  I hope I have overcome doing that.  In the beginning, I would have 10-50 people a day read this.  Now, I am up to 125-150.  I would like to thank you for tuning in.  I hope that I have been informative, as well as, entertaining.

Service with a Smile

The other day, CCTV posted a story about a stewardess, who fed a man who was having troubles feeding himself.  This reminded me of the all the great service we have received from Asian airlines.  I wrote a comment about how we were impressed with our last adoption.  I let people know how our cabin crew comforted Elana for almost the whole trip.  That would be unheard of in the US.  We would have been thrown off the flight.  I need t look up the airline website to tell them this.  It was Shenzhen Air.

A Scream Queen is Born

Elana has been in rare form today.  Everytime I put her down she would cry.  When we hit the road for Kayla's she would scream every couple of minutes.  It was almost like she was screaming S.O.S.  Nowthat we are out of the van, she is calm.

Bottomless? Yes, Please!

We brought the girls to Red Robin today.  Angie had a free burger for her birthday. Before we went, I saw a post that said they had bottomless kid's pasta.  You should have seen Michelle's face light up.  She ordered just that.  When it came to her, I was worried she would not like it.  She took a bite and fell in love.  She only made it through two plates.  I thought the promotion would end after Michelle had gone through.

Share the Road

After work, our team went for pizza.  On the way there, I turned onto the road that the business was on.  Less than a mile ahead of me was a person on a bike.  He did not seem to be peddling.  It looked like it was on the lowest tension.  In Florida, we share the road with people on bikes.  Sometimes there are bike lanes.  This was not one of those cases.  I was expecting him to pull over to the side.  He puts his arm up and drives in the center.  I thought he was getting ready to turn.  He did not.  I had to get passed the crest of a small hill to get by him.  He continued to block the road with his slow peddling.

Original Documents

Angie went to the other families house today.  They reluctantly gave up Haley's Chinese Passport and other paperwork.  They didn't want to give it up, but the lawyer convinced them to.  I don't know why you would want to keep information from a failed adoption.  Now we can progress with getting the insurance.  Next up doctor's appointments.

Ready for my Closeup!

Mia had her big show last night.  She was part of the 1st grade ensemble.  Before that, we were entertained by the kindergartners.  Elana was good up to the 1st grade.  Then she started to get restless.  Mia was up on the stage with an oversized Santa hat.  The hat covered half her face.  Their group sang three songs.  I made it through two.  At that point, Elana had had enough.  She started her screaming.  I led her into the hallway.

When we got home, I asked Mia if she was the star of the show.  She answered yes.  I asked her if she was ready for Hollywood.  She answered yes.

Words are Coming

We were preparing for Mia's play yesterday.  I had Elana in my arms and she was babbling like she does.  I said that I was going to tickle her and she goes "Naw".  The funny thing is, she said it just like Mia does.  I noticed that she is starting to pick up more words.  If you ask if she is hungry, she will answer cookie.  It will be nice when she is saying things and not just screaming.

A Star is Born

Tonight, Mia takes the stage in a kindergarten acting debut.  She is really excited about it.  In the past, her class did a show.  She just sat there.  Now that she is becoming more energetic, I hope she has been given more to do.  I'm just worried about her health.  She has not been feeling well.  I hope that does not affect her.  When she is not feeling well, she withdraws and gets a little mean.  Believe me, I have the scratch marks to prove it.

Haley Paperwork Updated

Since the parents are refusing to give up paperwork, it looks like the lawyer will be requesting the information through the courts.  Our main concern is her health.  We want to know what is going on.  She constantly tries to walk, but her legs just don't seem to want to work.  With her hearing, we might be about to assist there.  If she is deaf, we accept that.  We won't know anything until she starts seeing doctors, which is being held up.

It looks like reason has won out.  They are going to hand over her original paperwork that we need to get her things taken care of.  I love these ups and downs.  It makes my life a soap opera.

Haley Setback

We are still trying to set up her insurance.  Unfortunately, they require a Social Security Number.  To get that, we need Hayley's adoption information.  To get her citizenship paper work, they want originals.  The other family is refusing to give up any original paperwork.  We'll have to keep chipping away.

Moving Right Along

In a couple of days, I get my first office.  They are preparing for some moves at work.  I can't wait.  I was thinking about bringing in some pictures, collectibles, and maybe even a poster.  I will have to think about that one.  I don't want to over do it, but I want it to represent me.  A bunch of my fellow co-workers have collectibles.  One is even adding Star War's posters.  I will not be copying that.  It will also have to be business appropriate.  Maybe, I will frame some of the picture we took in China, as well as my family.

Adopteen Rejection

I brought up Adopteen to Kiersten.  She turned it down.  She did not even want to hear about it.  It's sad.  I thought it would be something that she'd like to do.  Michelle wants to, but you have to be 13 to do it.  I might call to see if there is a way, but I am doubting it.  I will tell them she is a very mature 10 close to 11.  From the itinerary, it looks like a lot of fun things and a chance to make new friends.

New Food Dish, Equal Dislike

I found a new thing at the store the other day.  It is called gnocchi.  It is a think dough dumpling.  I thought it would be good.  I bought a four cheese sauce to go with it.  When I brought it to the table, everyone did not like what they saw.  When it came to taste, only Haley and I would eat it.  Even Elana did not like it.  You know this, when she spits it out more than once.  No more gnocchi for us.

Scary Times

When I was in high school, we learned about the Nazis.  You'd think that something like that would never happen again.  Yet, we see what goes on in North Korea and no one does a thing.  Now, in the US, we have a candidate that is acting a lot like Hitler did.  The scary thing is, he has a lot of followers.  You know, his followers are willing to attack people at rally's who speak out against him.  This candidates rhetoric blames others for America's problems.  Just like Hitler did when he blamed others for Germany's problems.  If someone like this gets elected, we are in trouble.  Who knows where there hatred will end.  They might even single out my children to get returned to their country.

Adopteen Organization

A person who friended me on Facebook belongs to an organization called Adopteen.  I looked it up.  It is made up teens that were adopted from China.  They are doing a conference near us in Conyers, GA.  I thought Kiersten might be interested.  We'll have to see.  I think she would have fun and make friends.  Stay tuned!

When is a Gym like a Car Dealership?

We went to a gym yesterday for a tour of their facility.  I knew we were in trouble when I looked in their window.  They had tables set up like a car dealership.  We were in for some wheeling and dealing.  The first thing we did was to drop off the older children in the Kid's Area.  Then we sat down.  The person started out his sales speech.  Angie let him know we are just touring and trying to find out about pricing.  He gave us a quick tour.  It was like any other gym.  It was time for the sales speech.  Once I heard about the one time 200 fee, I tuned out.  He even talked about special deals, but would not mention unless we were ready to sign up right then and there.  It was already out of my price range.  Luckily, Angie has a benefit through her insurance that allows her to get free membership.  At least, she will be able to exercise at a facility.  I, on the other hand, will have to start doing it the old fashioned way.  Maybe, I can encourage my daughters to join me.

Red Alert in Beijing

I just read that the government had to declare a Red Alert due to smog.  That's sad.  Kids are being kept home for their safety.  I wish they'd get that under control  Beijing is a nice place to visit.  With warnings like that, I can't blame people for skipping it.  I feel for the people that live there.  Kiersten lived there for the first 7 years of her life.

Another Crouching Tiger

I just saw the preview for Crouching Tiger 2.  I don't understand one thing, why is everyone speaking English?  They didn't do it in the first one.  I'd rather see it in Mandarin.  Maybe there will be some explanation.  They could do like Hunt for the Red October where the changed from Russian to English.  The action still looks good.  Judge for yourself.

It Felt Like Overtime This Weekend

This weekend went by too fast.  I felt like I was working overtime all weekend.  On Saturday, I had to dress in a suit for a memorial.  Yesterday, I was dressed up for the pictures.  If the weather was cold, it would have been great.  This is Florida.  It was not cold.  It was warm and rainy.  That made the clothing even more unbearable.  Looking forward to next weekend.

The Cat is not Out of the Bag

Yesterday, I posted a picture of Haley on Facebook.  Only a select few would actually know who she is.  Angie does not want me to post anything.  They are probably scratching their heads wondering who this child is.  It's either that or they are going to think it's a friend of my children.  I was going to say Elana, but I also posted a picture of her.  Let the confusion begin!

Picture Day Over!

It' over.  It was a very long day.  We got yo our appointment late, so they punished us by about an hour.  Believe me, it is really hard to entertain young ones for a long period of time. By the time we got up there, Elana was not happy.  We got lucky though.  He was able to get some decent shots. I did get a good one of Elana looking at Christmas lights.

Music Experimentation

Last night, I exposed Elana to some new music.  I played Harry Chapin.  If you do not recognize the name, he is the man who brought us Cat's in the Cradle.  My dad was a big fan of his.  I became a fan from his listening to him.  I decided to see what Elana's reaction would be to me changing from lullabies to Harry Chapin.  She loved it.  She reacted to the breaks the same way.  I just think she likes all music.

Picture Day!

It's that time of year again.  It's holiday picture day for the Fahey's.  We go to Kayla's and gather at a nearby photo shop.  This year, Angie made matching dresses for the girls.  I think one year, we should all wear the dame sweaters.  We don't really have any.  Florida is too warm for sweaters.

Christmas Misunderstanding

Mia is getting older.  She is of the age that she can tell Santa what she wants.  It's too bad she does not understand that he is not going to just give you that toy.  She went up to him and asked for a light up bumblebee.  She waited.  Her sister told her to come.  She was having none of that.  She wanted Santa to produce that toy.  After much scratching and screaming, we got her to tell us what was wrong.  We convinced her that Santa had to go to his workshop and deliver it on Christmas day.

Sitting at Wal-Mart

We are sitting in the van waiting on Angie.  Elana has been screaming the whole time.  Our windows are down, so everyone can hear her.  A black bird flew onto the car next to us.  It started screeching.  I think it thought Elana was talking to him.

Getting Stronger by the Day

When Haley came to us, she did not have any strength.  She just sat and stared with a sad face.  Three weeks later, and she is scooting around the house.  Today, she was playing on the floor and laughing.  It is good to see her greeting around.  She keeps trying to stand and walk.  She can only do this a little at a time.  Angie told me that she has been added to the insurance, but we have to prove citizenship.  Hopefully, the agency and lawyer can assist with that.

Feeding a Picky Child

Elana was having one of her days.  She was screaming and would not stop.  Angie tried feeding her, but she spit everything out.  I got home and tried.  No dice.  She was not going to eat anything.  At this point, I thought about what I could feed her.  I remembered a stay in the hospital that I had.  I was put on a liquid diet.  They fed me Chicken Bouillon, Beef Bouillon, etc.  At first, I did not think that this would fill me up.  To my surprise, it did.  I made up some Chicken broth and put it into a cup that Elana would drink out of.  Sure enough, she drank the broth.  At least I have something to fall back onto, when she is being extremely picky.

Pay it Forward

Angie had to got to a meeting involving Kayla yesterday.  At this meeting, we learned that Kayla has almost hit another level.  They have four levels.  She is up to or should be as of today 3 day 0.  At each level, she has to be good and stay out of trouble for 30 days.  This is a big accomplishment from where she started.  She is just that much closer to stepping down to a smaller facility.  From there, she would come home.

After the meeting, Angie went to Sonny's BBQ.  It's a local eatery in Florida.  She had Haley and Elana.  Elana was having one of her days.  She kept screaming.  The waitress brought Angie things to stop her from screaming.  She also had patrons from the restaurant approach her to talk to Elana.  Angie got to tell our story.  By the end of the meal, she found out that one of the patrons had paid for her bill and tip.  Not only that, but the waitress gave Angie two coupons for a free meal.  She told her to bring her whole family.

Shooting in CA

It was sad to watch the news yesterday.  Well, sad because of the tragedy.  It was also sad about how the news wanted to yell, scream and somehow link this to terrorism.  For me, I thought it was a disgruntled employee.  I'm guessing there was some kind of link, but it still feels like a workplace shooting done by a disgruntled employee.  We'll hear more as it is released.

Breakfast with Haley

After getting dressed, I sat down to eat a bowel of cereal.  Haley was watching me.  Then, she started to crawl towards me.  She has not been able to walk.  I can't wait until we get some insurance for her. When she got to me, she had me prop her up.  She started to pull my arms toward her.  It's her way of saying she wants food.  I started to give her the milk from my bowel.  She is not eating hard foods.  She liked what I gave her.  Angie had oatmeal ready for her to eat after I left.

China Fears

I've talked about the fears fellow adoptees have about China.  Some things could be accurate.  Smog is dangerous.  I saw a story where an artist in China vacuumed the smog for a month and was able to create a brick from it.  That's scary.  I'd want an air mask.  There are indoor places to visit in Beijing.
Some families are worried about carrying the adoption money.  We've done 4 adoptions and no problems.  Sure it can be inconvenient.
Hotels are another issue.  Evidently, someone has started a mold rumor at the Garden Hotel in Guangzhou.  I didn't see or smell any.  Usually these agencies put you up in the best of hotels.  You can imagine what cheaper places would look or smell like.  The White Swan has reopened.  I read that they are catering to business travelers.

Wild West 2015

We had another shooting in America.  At the same time, gun companies are having record sales.  Soon, it will be like the wild west.  Everyone will pull a gun at every bang they hear.  A car backfires, a soccer mom pulls a piece.  I just hope people don't revert to standoffs, high noon style, to resolve arguments/disagreements.  Our funeral homes would probably like it, though.

Clean Bill of Health

Besides her eyes, Elana got a clean bill of health.  We still have to have her hearing checked.  The doctor did note that she screams a lot.  I don't know if the hearing has something to do with it.  Her weight and height check out.  That was good to here.  I know one thing, she is getting heavy.

The Child in Need

I was looking at the posts from Love Without Borders and they have raised the money for Bonnie Jean's surgery.  I'm sure if you keep checking back to their site, you can find out how it turned out.  If I see something, I will post it.  If you gave thanks.  They also have other opportunities to help children on their site.

Birthday Success!

The dinner went great.  I made ribs with a rub.  I actually used some cocoa powder as one of the ingredients.  Everyone love it.  Elana started to eat the ribs.  Then, she spit it out.  I also baked sweet potatoes.  Elana actually ate it.  I gave her potatoes without butter or sugar.  It was just mashed up sweet potato.  For dessert, we ate cheesecake.  It turned out better than the last one.  Angie got some gifts from the girls.  She had a good birthday.

It was funny, Michelle made a comment I have to put.  As she was getting ready to eat her ribs, she declares "Okay Michelle, time to get dirty!"

Information Received!

We got Haley's court information.  Now she is officially in our care.  There are some problems.  She is listed in her other name.  We don't have a social security number.  Angie is going to see what will happen.  We may need DCF's assistance.  Hopefully, we can get some soon. Haley is definitely gaining more strength.  She was crawling all around the house today.

A Child in Need

It's sharing Tuesday.  I'd like to share this post of a family in need. This child has had a rough life.  Her father died shortly after birth.  Then, she was attacked by a wild animal.  Her mother and grandfather do not have the money for a surgery.  Please click on the link and consider helping this family.

Resite Rebute

It seems that the international adoption community does not like the idea of respite.  The person who wrote about trying to set up people in each state got an ear full from others on Facebook.  I know if it happens again, Angie would do it again.  I understand it can be overwhelming, but we've been through 5 and in the process of one more.

Birthday Celebration

I took the day off to assist Angie on her birthday.  I plan to make a nice dinner and I have already made the cheesecake.  Later, the girls want me to bring them to the store, so they can pick something out.  Mia stayed home.  When I woke her, she had a fever.  She keeps going through this.  We're supposed to get Haley's legal info.  This should allow us to get insurance.  Busy day.

Tuesday Sharing

Today, is a day of sharing.  Please take time and review some of my Reece's Rainbow posts.  That would be a great place to give, especially at this time of the year.  Come back later and I will be sharing another post of a place that is looking for donations.

Respite Care

Today, someone posted that they are looking for families who'd be interested in providing respite care for people who have come back from China and can not handle their new children.  I'm guessing Angie will volunteer.  If this leads to more kids, we are going to need a bigger house.

Michelle's Gotcha Day!

Michelle had a good day for her 10 year anniversary.  She got a candy egg thing she wanted.  I posted about her day on Facebook.  I had a picture of her eating Panda Express.  I talked about ten years ago we got to hold this bundle of joy.  I explained that the picture was fitting.  It was fitting because when we got her, we asked the orphanage director about her and she pointed and said "That one, she likes to eat!"  She has not changed. This was the adoption that started our many Chinese adoptions.

Picky Eater

Elana can be a real picky eater.  It would be great if she could just tell us what she liked or disliked, but that is not how you find out.  You find out after you give her something.  If she likes it, she eats it.  If she does not, she spits it out.  She also has a habit of spitting it out when she needs a drink.  Then she will continue to eat it.  At the end, if she spits it out twice, she is done with the meal.  She did not really like many of the Thanksgiving foods.  Last night, I pureed some turkey and added mayo.  She would not eat it.  So, I put it on a sandwich roll.  At this point, she ate it.  She still had moments where she would spit out the meat part of it.

On Saturday, I brought Elana and Michelle to Taco Bell.  We were going to go to Ikea for food, but Angie did not want to go.  Michelle got a little upset.  I guess I should not have told her until it happened.  So, I decided to bring them to a closer place.  I brought Elana because she can be a real handful and she seems to get upset when I leave her.

Looking at the menu, I had to find something simple for Elana.  I did not know if she would like it.  I got a taco.  I started with some lettuce, cheese, and meat.  She ate it.  The I gave her more.  Later, I tried lettuce and she spit it out.  I know she will eat the taco meat.  Also, she does not like soda.  She tried some and pushed it away.  We got her some water and she was happy with that.

Ten Years Ago. . .

It was ten years ago today, that we got to finally hold our bundle of joy.  Because of joy this adoption, we decided to continue adopting from China.  I remember that first day clearly.  We had met in the lobby of our hotel to go to the adoption center.  Once there, we went inside.  They led us into a room where we were to receive our children.  Then we found another group there.  They led us into the hallway.  It was in this hallway that the started announcing the children. When we got Michelle, her diaper was barely on.  We did not know if they knew how to put on a diaper.  Unfortunately, she was wet.  We went over to the side and changed her.  Then, they told us that the children were probably hungry.  We mixed up a bottle. She refused it.  At this point, we discovered that she liked her formula extremely hot.  If it was not hot enough, she would reject.

Reincarnation of Sam Kinison

When I was a kid, Sam Kinison was a popular comedian.  One thing he did was to yell when he was trying to emphasize a punchline.  Unfortunately, he died as he was hitting the heights of his career.

I think he has been reincarnated.  Elana can be a funny girl.  At times, she likes to scream.  When I listen, it sounds just like Sam Kinison.  Maybe she will grow up to be a blind comedienne in the same mold as Sam.

It's a Small World After All

We went to Sam's in search of diapers and samples.  The samples were just starting, but we were able to get some.  After the shopping, we sat down to some was lunch.  I was people watching.  I saw an Asian child with her mother, not Asian.  I turn to Angie and say look.  She recognized the woman. They were a part of our first adoption.  Their daughter came from the same province as Michelle.  Michelle and the girls got to meet again.  Hopefully, we will get together with them again.

Michelle reminded me that tomorrow, we will be celebrating her 10th Gotcha Day.  Of course, she is treating it like it is a second birthday.  She even says we need to buy her gifts.

Black Friday?

Today, is Black Friday.  I went to Wal-Mart.  They were acting like it was already over.  I started looking at movies.  Employees kept getting in my way.  They kept consolidating things as people took things from the displays.  Luckily, I found what I was looking for.  At the front, they had three lanes open.  This is a super box store.  Two lanes were 20 items or less.

Elana and Haley's Thanksgiving

The girls got to experience their first Thanksgiving.  I thought Elana would love the food.  She did not.  Haley did.  I was hoping they would eat turkey and it would knock them out.  Now they are getting exercise.

Backseat Driver

Angie accuses me of being a backseat driver.  Today, the shoe was on the other foot.  She sat in the passenger seat.  I was not driving fast enough. I was not in the right lane.  Snails were passing us.  She even saw a turtle passing us.

Thanksgiving Breakfast

Today we ate our breakfast with Kayla.  We got a late start.  Angie had me start driving.  That did not last long.  The van was low on gas.  When getting more, Angie said I was driving too slow.  At Cracker Barrel, Elana was being clingy.  I had to hold her.  Just about everything I put in her mouth was spit out.  She ended up settling on biscuits.  Kayla ate chocolate chip pancakes.  She loved them.  It was a great morning visit.

Music Soothes the Savage Beast

I have written about Elana's screaming at night.  I finally think I found out how to calm her down.  I started play children's lullaby's through Spotify.  The first time, she screamed and then calmed down.  Every time the song would change, she would get upset.  Lately, she seems to be happy when I play it for her.  I'm glad I found something.  The only alternative I could think of was noise cancelling headphones.

Great Movie Gifts Available

Every Tuesday, I tune into a site called Ain't It Cool News.  They publish a post that give deals at Amazon on great movies.  With Christmas right around the corner, I figured I would share the link with you.  If you are looking for some good deals on classic Blu-Ray films, then check it out.  You can get Coraline and My Big Fat Greek Wedding for $5.00 each.

A Discussion with Michelle

On the way home last night, I had Michelle and Elana in my car.  I started to talk to Michelle about horror movies.  She turns to me and says "Dude, Halloween is already over!"  I kept asking about movie titles and would describe them to her.  She would say no.  I told her these were all classics.  She told me that I was freaking her out.  When I got home I showed her some of the covers to the movies.  Each no was more emphasized then the previous one.

Reece's Rainbow: Meet Kaley

I just had to list Kaley.  She is a cute child that is in need of a forever family.  She is two and has a heart defect.  It might have been repaired, but there may be need of further surgeries.  If you know someone who is adopting or just want to give towards her adoption, please go to the link.  Feel free to share.

Doctor Check

Angie had some doctors look at Haley.  Just on a spot check, they gave us some ideas of what she might have.  We will have to wait until she gets insurance coverage.  This is what I keep saying.  If you adopt, whether it is domestic or international, have your child checked out by a doctor.  They have to start shot records and you want to start your child's health history.  I guess this is coming from my foster training, but it is a wise thing to do.

The Good Dinosaur

Michelle and I went to see The Good Dinosaur.  Another great movie by Pixar.  The first thing that you see will amaze you.  If the whole film was created by computer, then they have just moved up animation to new heights.  The water and land look real.  It is a well done movie with a theme of making you mark in life.  Once again, they picked great voice talents.  If you are looking for a film for the family at Thanksgiving, this is your film.

Your Biggest Fan

I met Angie after work to pick up Michelle for a movie.  I walked into the restaurant and went up to their table.  Within seconds of arriving, Elana sensed I was there and grabbed my leg.  Then she started burying her face in my leg.  I guess she wanted me to know she was there.  I picked her up and she was happy.

A Leg to Stand On

When Haley came to us, she was weak.  She did not move around a lot.  We did not even know if she could walk.  We still don't know that one.  She is one determined child.  As she has grown stronger, she keeps trying to walk.  She will pull herself down and stand.  When she goes to take a walk, she falls.  I am hoping it is just from no use, but we will have to wait until she sees a doctor.  I know that she is not scared to try.  It's great to see her transformation.

Pizza Pie in your Eye

Elana is not a fan of pizza.  I cooked up a pizza yesterday for the family.  I tried to feed it to Elana.  It had beer brats on it.  She liked the meat.  When I put some pizza in her mouth, it did not stay long.  I tried three times.  Finally, I gave up.  At her feet where the pieces that I had put in her mouth.  So I made her a peanut butter sandwich.  She loved that, with her big glass of milk.

A Laughing Matter

I was feeding Elana and Haley today.  I had some carrots left over.  They were too tough for Haley.  I started to break them down with a plastic spoon.  Haley started laughing.  She did this for a couple of minutes.  She thought it was the funniest thing.  Good to see her laugh.

A Room with a View

I did not post yesterday because I forced myself to get something done around the house.  My first goal was to work on Michelle's room.  I wanted to move the futon to Mia's room.  I cleaned it while watching Goldfinger.  I accomplished that.  Then I had to go shopping for Thanksgiving groceries.  When I got back, Elana desired my attention.  When I sat her down, she would scream.  I had to come up with a way for her to be happy and let me move the futon.  I brought her in the room.  She liked the light and I saw my opportunity to finish.  Part of the moves are done.  I will have to help move a crib and clean up Mia's room.  At least I did something.

Mouthful of Kale

Angie made a soup last night.  It had kale, sausage, potatoes, etc.  I had my doubts as to whether Elana was going to eat it.  I started with the meat.  She ate it.  I added the kale and other vegetables with the meat.  I waited.  I was expecting her to work it out of her mouth.  It did not happen.  She ended up eating the whole bowl of soup.

Movies Predicting Events

With all the terrorist activity going on and our politicians talking about needing to know more information for security purposes, it reminds me of the latest Bond movie.  If you have not seen it yet, go see it and make up your own mind.  It seems to come from the incidents we are now living through.  I wonder if Spectre has their hand in this?

Cramming

I have one day to finish The Girl in the Spider's Web.  I only have about 200 to read.  I have to turn it in tomorrow.  That is why the post have been a little spotty.  I have enjoyed the book so far.  I found out that one of the film companies are thinking about making this into a movie and changing the actors.  I actually liked the original and the remake.  I thought both had great actors.

Reece's Rainbow Update

I have not given up on listing children.  Since I have started my new position, things have been busy.  I still plan to list children.  I hope people will go to their pages and help get the word out.  If I was responsible for finding a family for one child, that would mean a lot.  I wish I could do that for Audra.

Another Night, Another Scream

Elana started screaming again last night.  I don't know why she is doing this.  Not only is she screaming, but she is also crying.  I finally open the bedroom door.  Then I made Angie mad.  I did not know what to do.  I figured she wanted to be out with her sisters.  Guess I was wrong.

My First Official Meeting

I got to attend a meeting at work in my new job capacity.  It was interesting.  Raters do not attend these kind of meetings.  Now I am part of the Underwriting team.  I was welcomed with open arms.  I look forward to working with the people I will be working with.  The best part of the meeting was that we got lunch.  Usually, I had to wait for the leftovers.  Now I will get a warmer meal.

Consolation Prize

Well, I might not have won the contest for the Just Share it culture contest, but I did get a certificate.  I wonder if they did this because I was being vocal about it?  Who cares.  I understand that I will not win every contest.  I tend to be a little competitive.

Another Contest, Another Loss

I should just give up while I'm ahead.  I lost the dessert contest.  I was not even in the top three.  I think there were a lot more entries than in the past.  One person even made 3 cheesecakes.  Compared to his, everyone probably thought my cake was plain.  Michelle, Haley, Elana, and Angie liked my cheesecake.  That is good enough for me.

Another Day, Another Contest!

Today, we are having our Thanksgiving meal at work.  One thing they do is a dessert contest.  I won a couple of years ago.  I decided to try again.  I am entering a cheesecake.  We'll see how I will do.  I don't know how many entries there will be this year.  I do believe there are prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.  The funny thing is, my mom came up with the recipe and she does not like to eat it.

A Scream in the Night

Elana was having major issues last night.  When I got home, she was acting tired.  When she is tired, she will walk around and throw anything she can get her hands on.  I quickly made dinner, so that I could get her to bed.  Once we got in the room, she kept screaming.  It was a repetitive scream, not continuous.  She would scream and then take a break.  It lasted for two hours.  I finally got up and we gave her some medicine.  I hope that was it.  She can really scream.

Turkey!

For those in the US, have you got your turkey?   I got ours the other day.  From what I hear, they will probably have enough to meet demand.  There may not be a lot of deals offered.  This was due to the bird flu that happened earlier in the year.  If you see a turkey, you might want to buy it.

New Position and other Musings

I started as an underwriter today.  It feels like rating.  Actually, we are trying to get things done the holidays.  Our system is being checked.  I have to find things to keep me busy.  Earlier today, I posted on China Cultures Facebook site.  I just wanted to let my fellow entrants know that the contest is over.  I think they should have sent consolation prizes, since they decided to change the rules.  I should sent that to them.  I'm sure they'd ignore it.

The Fix was In!

I finally got my response about the photo contest.  Guess what?  They decided to change their rules.  They felt that they did not get as many entries as they hoped for, so they cut it to one winner.  They gave me a name, but I can't read Pinyin.  The name given is Chinese.  Not only that, but it would be interesting to see what kind of votes that person got.  That would be hard to do, since the took down all the votes.  Will I enter a contest like that again, I don't know.  It just seemed that it was rigged in their favor.  Just like gambling in a casino.

Stand with Paris

I changed my profile on Facebook.  There is an app or something like that, that allows you to put the colors of the French flag over a picture.  I chose one of Angie, Michelle, Kayla and I in front of the Eiffel Tower.  It was about a year or two after we had finalized their adoptions.  Angie had won tickets through her job.  It was an amazing trip.  I can't wait to go back, but it will probably be after retirement.

Shopping with Elana

I was trying to be nice yesterday.  I decided to take Elana grocery shopping with me.  That way, she is not upset when I am gone.  I had this plan that she would sit in the cart.  Reality: I had to carry her and push the cart with my other hand.  Luckily, she was in a good mood.  Next time, I bring the carrier.

Day Da and Bumblebees!

Elana woke in the middle night.  She started singing Mia's Bumblebee song.  I told her it was not time to wake up.  She turned to me and said day daaa! She stressed the last word.  Mia has been doing that with certain words.  Elana is picking up those speech patterns.  She eventually went bake to sleep.

Morning Breakfast with the Brood

We loaded in our van to enjoy a nice breakfast.  Chick-fil-a in our town is is doing a fundraiser for the foodbank.  We were able to get a chicken biscuit for most of the kids.  Michelle and Kiersten had other plans.  Luckily, we had a coupon for free nuggets.  It was a real saving to us.  At onepoint, I had to bring Elana outside.  She kept screaming.  She might be getting sick.

Haley Fahey I Presume!

Haley Fahey is closer to being ours legally.  We will be going into a 90 waiting period after the lawyer submits it to the courts.  She is doing well.  She gets stronger everyday.  We hope to bring her to the doctor, but we have to set up her insurance.  It may take some help to get that to happen.  The family refused to give up her Chinese information.  I mean her passport and other information.  I am hoping the agency can assist with that.  I don't see the reason for keeping it.  I guess they wanted a souvenir of their adoption.

It Came in the Mail

Yeah!  I finally got my Kindle.  I can't wait to go home and see it.  They shipped it quickly after this last correspondence.  If you'd like a change to win contests like this, like/follow China Daily on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram.  I still don't know about the China Culture contest.  I might just write the person who contact me for this prize.

Standing on My Own Two Feet

When Haley came into our house, she could not stand on her legs.  We thought she might have a leg disorder.  Over the last week or two, she has been moving her legs around.  Today, she actually stood on her own two legs.  It is looking more like the deafness might be her only issue.  We won't know until we bring her to a doctor for a full checkup.  She is doing good.  She eats most of the things we fix her.

Elana, on the other hand, is very picky.  We are trying to get her to eat more solid foods and get off the formula she was drinking.  I have noticed that she will eat when she is hungry enough.  I don't think it would hurt her to lose any weight.  She was a well fed child in China and has not been having any issues eating at our home.

Prize Information

I woke up around 4:00 am and noticed my phone was flashing.  China Daily was letting me know that they would be sending the Kindles soon.  I was happy to see that.  I only wish China Culture would release the list of winners, but I am guessing there might be none.  When I was replying to my text, I noticed Elana sitting up twirling some clothing.  She did not even make a sound.  After a minute or two, she got up and started going in circles.  I checked her diaper and sure enough she was wet.  I changed her, but she was not ready to go back to sleep.  I just went back to sleep.  When my alarm went off, she was back in bed asleep.

More of a Restful Day

I had hoped to get things done, but my boss had other plans.  Elana ran around the house doing things.  I eventually blocked her in the living room.  She finally took a nap.  Meanwhile, I caught up on The Walking Dead and Fresh Off The Boat.  I did get the food shopping done.

Day Off

Today I am off.  Our work is honoring Veteran's Day.  It's kind of weird having a day off in the middle of the week.  I am going to get some shopping done and maybe some cleaning.  That is only if Elana lets me.  She is sort of the boss today.  I'd like to get some things done.

A Dinner Routine

Recently, we have gone out to dinner with the girls.  If you have read my posts, you know how difficult this can be.  Elana usually wants me to hold her, the whole time.  Angie said we should put her in the stroller.  We did.  She has done well.  She does screech every once in awhile.  If you hive her fruit snacks, it keeps her happy.  After I finish, I get up and wheel her around.

China Haze

I was looking at the news and saw a picture of smog in Beijing.  I remember those days.  They say it's from coal burning.  Most people in the north burn coal for heat.  It's too bad for the health of the people though.  I wonder what kind of birth defects that could cause.  When I lived in California, they used to have smog warnings.  It was not like the haze Beijing has.  When you would breath in on those heavy smog days, your lungs would hurt.  You could not take deep breaths.  Maybe the government will eventually change things, but it will take time.

Daddy's Girl

Elana has grown quite attached to me.  I usually have to hold her.  When I am around, she likes to be near me.  Last night, I got home after 9:00 because of the movie.  When I walked into the house, I was greeted with screaming.  Elana was having a major tantrum.  It was partly due to being tired, but partly because I was not there to put her to bed.  I quickly got on my sleeping clothes and went to her.  As soon as I was holding her, she stopped crying.

Blind Movie with Review

You know there is blind dates.  Tonight I am seeing a Blind Movie.  It is called Love the Coopers.  I have not seen the preview.  Hopefully, it will be good.

So, maybe this is not the best way to pick a movie.  If I had seen the preview, I might not have gone to the movie.  It was like a Hallmark Holiday Movie with more or less A level actors.  There were enjoyable moments, but to me it was few and far between.  If you like holiday movies, then this might be your cup of tea.

Haley's Province

I was doing some research on Haley's Province.  She comes from Zhenzhou.  It is in the Henan province.  Looking at what is there, I wish we could have gone there.  The thing that stood out is that the Shoalin Temple is there.  I guess we will have to visit when she gets older.  There are also mountains that look like they would be interesting to visit.

Photo Contest

I don't understand the contest I entered.  I wish they would have stuck to their guidelines.  It looks like no one will win.  I have checked everything I can.  I wonder if the winners will be going to next years festival.  It is hard to tell.  As the rules explained it, it was for the festival that began yesterday.  I have written people, but no one responds.  It's kind of aggravating.

Visit with Kayla

Just finished visiting with Kayla.  The girls had fun together.  Kayla is doing great.  When we left, she was informed that she was going on a van ride.  She likes that.  They might do something else, but it depends on their behaviors.  Now we are headed for dinner.

Movie Night with Michelle

Last night, her school did a movie night.  They showed Inside Out.  We had already seen the movie, but Michelle wanted to hang out with friends.  She also was hoping for popcorn and drinks.  Usually, that is what they have offered.  They did not have those things.  Michelle said they ran out.  I did not see any in the garbage.  They did sell pizza and soda.  The families were eating it up.  The movie was too loud.  Kids were running around.  I was happy when it was over.

Saturday Morning Movie

At the theater to see Spectre.  Probably going to be a packed theater.  I would have seen the sneak, but it was on the other side of town.  Stay tuned for review.

I was kind of disappointed with the review of this movie.  The reviewer said it was the worst in 30 years.  I liked it.  There was plenty of action and it seemed to wrap up the Daniel Craig Bond storyline.  Dave Bautista did a good job as a henchman.  If you like the current Bond movies, then you will like this one.

Ready for the Big Girl Bed?

Usually at night, I take Elana into the room and close the door.  I lay on the futon.  I start Elana on the futon.  She does not stay there.  She will walk around the bed about a million times.  I will pull her back onto the futon.  Eventually she will drift away to sleep.  Last night, she did what she usually does.  One change happened, she climbed onto Michelle's bed and fell asleep.  Michelle's bed is a normal twin bed.  It does not have a side railing.  I could not let Elana sleep there.  I would be worried that she would roll off the bed.  I wonder if she is getting used to everything?  Maybe that could lead up to her sleeping in a bed of her own.

Godzilla and Her Path of Destruction

I had to wait outside for Mia.  Elana stomped through the house throwing things.  By the time I got back to the house, it looked like Godzilla and his path of Destruction.  She does this when she is tired.  As I am writing this, she is tossing things off the counter.

Fine Dining?

Today, I left work lunch with Michelle.  It is called fine dining.  Michelle wanted Taco Bell.  I don't think that qualifies for fine dining, but it is what she wanted.  I stopped by to get her order.  Soon, I was sitting around a class of 5th graders.  Michelle enjoyed her lunch.

Amazing News!

In addition to our adoption, I just found out that I am getting a promotion at work.  I am moving up to Underwriter.  I have been working as a rater for 10 years.  It's time for change.  I will have to work hard, but I think I can do it.  I have a great group of people to assist me.

No Trip to China

If we had gone to adopt Audra, it would have meant another trip to China.  It looks like I'll have to wait.  I still hope to win the picture contest, but who knows.  I check it everyday.  Nothing.  If that does not work, then we save for a mass family trip for the girls to see their homeland.  I don't know if we would have been able to afford a full adoption.  This time we only need to pay the lawyers fees for a domestic adoption.

Our New Addition

So, our new addition is 3 years old.  She is deaf.  She is very quiet.  I think she is coming out of it.  She slept really well last night.  By the way, we will be naming her Haley.  She does not cry much.  Only when tired or hungry.  I will post a picture shortly.

Impatience, My Worst Enemy!

I'm still waiting on the picture contest.  Nothing has been announced.  I have emailed people, posted on their site, etc.  I guess I should take a breath and just wait.  I look like a have a good chance to win, but who knows.  I guess I am a very impatient person.

We Are Adopting Again!!!!

As you might have read, we are not going to pursue adopting Audra.  We dearly wanted to, but China had its concerns.  This week, an opportunity opened to us.  We took in a child for respite care.  A family had recently got back from China and were having issues.  We were willing to help.  It is looking like we might have a chance to adopt this child.  We have to wait until the end of the week, but she is still with us.  She is 3.  As far as we can tell, she is deaf.  She does sign a little.  We will have to bring her to the doctor to have a thorough checkup.

Reece's Rainbow: Meet Lexi

I did not know this, but Lexi had an adoption disrupted.  What that means is a family went over to China to adopt her.  For some reason, they did not want to go through the adoption.  It happens.  That is why people need to research before going.  At least, she still has a chance to be adopted.  I have heard of others that have been moved off the adoption list after an adoption.  Think how it scars the child to meet someone and then does not want them.  Believe me, we live in a small world.  Our lives have intersected with others that might pertain to Lexi.  Please look at her file.  If you consider adopting her, do research on special needs and her specific needs.

The Notorious Fairbanks Curve

If you have ever driven through Orlando on I-4, then you might have heard of the curve.  This is an area that is notorious for accidents.  Today was no exception.  I was just about to get on it and Angie calls to find out where I am.  I tell her and she informs me of an accident.  I still went on 4.  I made it close to the area of the accident.  Then, I pulled off, took a back road and used Fairbanks to get back on 4.  I was able to get to work on time.  I did not have time to write.  Here I am with the first posting.

Things Change

As you know, Angie and I have been trying to adopt Audra from China.  At first, we were approved, but when we tried our agency said that we could not.  We were to wait until getting home.  We got home and China said no.  It was not a solid not.  After our 6 month report went in, we tried again.  China is still leery about granting us approval.  Now a big thing happened this weekend.  I will get into it another day, but we will have to stop trying for Audra.  We won't be able to afford the adoption and do not have the space.  I will continue to advocate for her.  Hopefully, someone will fall in love with her.

Another Day, No News

I woke this morning expecting the list of winners to be announced.  There was nothing.  I am still second in votes.  I don't know when the voting stopped.  I guess the announcement will come tomorrow.  There is a lot going on that I have not written about that will change our lives.  I hope to write about it soon.

Bloodsuckers, Bears, and other Ghouls

Last night was an adventure.  We started trick or treating around 6:30.  It started out okay.  Then, we were attacked by a group of bloodsuckers.  I swatted at them as much as I could.  Eventually, they went away.  Some of our neighbors set up haunted house type set up to give people a scare.  One of those scares was set up like the movie The Purge.  They had an alarm blaring.  A group of people in masks with bats and other weapons.  Michelle saw this and knew what it was.  The girls got lots of candy.  Mia even participated.  By the end, we got news that the bear had been sighted near our pool.  It was dark in that section.  The pool is across from our house.  We made it home safely.  Angie did tell me she had heard a crash outside.  Nothing could be found.

Fall Festival part 2

We just got back from another fall festival.  It was at a church near us.  They were doing a trunk or treat.  They also had games and food.  The food cost money.  We ate before leaving.  Then I took the girls to Baskin Robins Ice Cream.  On the 31, they are selling a scoop for 1.31.  Next up, walk the neighborhood.

Warm day turned Hot

One of the joys, for some, is our warm weather.  Today is no exception.  It is hot out there.  That means a warm night.  Mosquito spray will be needed.  The girls have a major hike planned tonight.

HOA Hoedown

Tonight we brought the girls to a HOA Halloween event.  It was fun for them, but the mosquitoes were biting.  Tomorrow is going to be hell.  Guess I'll have to lather up in mosquito spray.

Halloween Decoration Contest

I put the finishing touches on my display.  People at work liked it.  I came in second.  I figured I could not win two years in a row.  Second was good enough for me.  Next year, I will remember to have a theme.

Halloween Weekend

This weekend, I should find out about the contest.  I found one site that said that the winners would be announced by November 1.  I still am getting votes.  Tomorrow, we plan on doing some errands with the girls.  That night will be trick r treating.  The girls want to walk the neighborhood.  I don't think it is going to be cool.  We will be entertaining a visitor for the weekend.  It is going to be a busy one.

Taking out Aggression

If by chance you ever adopt a child, domestically or internationally, and you do not instantly get a long with the child, please do not take it out on them.  It is not their fault.  They just want a family.  It will take time for bonding to happen.  It is  not always instant.  You have to keep attending to their needs.  If you feel it is overwhelming, seek help from family members, adoption groups, and/or other adoption related groups.  There are a lot of people that have probably been through what you are going through.

A New Day?

China woke up to the new policy.  I was listening to NPR and they were interviewing people on the street.  They did not think it would change much.  Plus, they were questioning why now?  Are they going to force women to have children if they don't want more?  From what I have read, in the cities, it is too expensive to raise another child.  Farming communities might opt in, but I still worry about the desire to have a male and children with special needs.

One Child Becomes Two!

As you might have heard, China has lifted its one child policy to two children.  I think now they will at least keep one daughter, however, what if both are female?  Another scenario are the children with special needs.  I still think they will abandon children with special needs.  It will either be because they can not afford their care or the stigma attached to raising a child that others might consider imperfect.  It will be interesting to see what happens.

Surviving the Slaughter!

This morning, I went to bring out our garbage can.  Low and behold, they were both on their sides.  It looks like our bear survived the slaughter of the bears.  I'm glad it did not get in the can, though.  I could see diapers strewn across our lawn, if it had opened the can.  He'll be safe until they do it again next year.

Look Before you Leap!

I have said it in the past and I will say it again.  Before adopting, please do the research.  Especially when it comes to Special Needs children.  They do have the title Special Needs for a reason.  They need extra love and attention.  Some of that attention might come in the form of medical attention.  You have to remember that if you are adopting internationally, these children are in an orphanage with lots of other children.  They might not get much attention.  They usually have a few workers taking care of many children.  Even if you mean well, you still have to be prepared.  It will be rough in the beginning.  Once that trust is earned, then you be able to bond with that child.  That will forever change their lives.

Cold Weather

I envy those of you who are enjoying cooler weather.  Here in Florida, it is warm and humid.  Ideal temperatures for mosquitoes.  I dread Saturday.  It is Halloween in America.  My daughters plan on trick or treating.  I'm guessing we will be bathing in mosquito spray.  Once you get home, you have to shower.  We are usually hot and sweaty.  In that mix is the smell of mosquito spray.

Quick Meal Idea

The girls wanted to go to church tonight.  I had to scrounge together a meal.  I remembered we had tortillas.  I checked in the pantry for garbanzo beans.  I had two cans.  I decided to make tacos.  You might wonder how. If you run the beans through a grinder, you can heat them up and add taco seasonings.  I usually start by adding some olive oil to a cooking pot.  I add the beans, seasoning, and some water.  Cook it for a few minutes and it is ready.  The kids will actually eat it.

Good Things Come to those Who Wait!

An opportunity might have opened for me.  I hope it happens.  It has been something that I have wanted to do for a very long time.  I think that I have been somewhat patient about it.  I only hope that I can get it.  At the end of the week, I hope to find out about the photo contest.  For that one, I might get a trip to China.  Unfortunately, I don't think it is for next year's art festival.  By the looks of it, it is mid November of this year.  No time to plan or set up travel for Angie.  At this same time, we hope to find out about Audra.  If that does not happen, I will still try to advocate for her.  I just want her to find a family.

Freebie Alert!

Taco Bell will be giving away free AM Cruchwraps on November 5th from 7 to 11.  It is for the American locations.  I don't know about out of America.  You know I will be there.  They are actually pretty good.

Waiting is the Hardest Part!

I am now waiting for a number of things.  Top of that list is whether China will allow us to adopt Audra.  Chances are looking slim.  China still has doubts.  The agency director is flying to China and is supposed to talk to them directly.  We should find out something by mid November.  I am also waiting on the China Culture contest.  That is supposed to be announced in late October.  In 3 to 4 days, depending on whether you count today, I should know something.  I have over 1000 votes.  Only one set of pictures is closing in.  I don't know if late votes count.  The rules were kind of vague.  They say judging ended on the 21st, however, voting is still enabled.  Finally, I have my cubicle display.  I will find out the winner on Friday.  Two others have put something up.  I am keeping my eyes open.  If I need to step it up a little, I will come up with something.

Reece's Rainbow: Meet Mavis

Meet Mavis.  She was born on March 2012.  She has been diagnosed with Epilepsy.  It is being managed by diet and medication.  Please give her page a look.  If you have the money to donate, please do so.  If you know someone who is adopting, please let them know about Mavis.

What Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up?

This is a question that has bogged children down since grade school.  As you go into high school, you have to really start thinking about the direction of your education.  It's a part of life.  When they do this in film, it can be good, but it can also fail.  That would be Our Brand is Crisis.  It comes off as this funny comedy that tries to be a drama with a message.  Unfortunately, the message is lost in the film or I just didn't care by the end of it.  This is the kind of movie I'd wait on for the DVD.

Broke Down

I am in line to see Our Brand is Crisis.  I had not really seen the preview.  Today, i broke down and watched it.  It looks pretty good. This is my movie of the week.  I like the actors in the movie.

Audra Update

Well, it seems China still has concerns about us.  Our agency director is going to China to talk to them.  I'm sure she has other things planned, but has said she will talk on our behalf.  We should find something out in mid November.  I have posted her link, if you'd like to donate to her adoption.  She has not moved since I started talking about her.  Please give and/or pass it on to others.

Please Bear with Me!

I'm starting to get worried about the bear who kept knocking over the trashcans.  He/she has not touched the cans in a couple of days.  I was wondering if I was going to pick up trash this morning.  Nothing had been touched.  I think I would be happy to see them knocked over.  I did not consider the bear a nuisance.  We are in a HOA neighborhood.  These bears do not pay dues, so they should stay out.

Halloween Display

I came in early to set up my display.  I don't know if that is a good thing.  Now my coworkers can see what I have done.  They can shoot for a bigger display.  I will have to keep my eye out.  I might need to come up with more things.  I probably should start thinking about what to do.  I will add some pictures later in the week.  I don't think that this is all I am going to do.

Bear Hunt

Our state concluded the bear hunt.  Around 290 bears lost their lives.  I wonder if the hunters will be harvesting the meat or just going for a trophy.  I don't know if the bear who keeps getting into our garbage was one of the casualties, but I haven't had to pick up garbage in the last couple of days.  Also, a cub was killed.  I guess they were trying for a kids bear rug.

Petty Grievance

Angie and I were talking about the contest.  She told me someone was voting against ne.  The reason? I dropped someone off my friend list for Facebook.  So be careful, if you unfriend someone, they might get upset.

Heads will Roll

I finished my zombie heads last night. When we got home from the fall festival, I checked the heads.  They were dry.  I applied the paint.  We had some green paint that fit my needs.  Once done, it was time to dry.

Fall Festival

Every year at Halloween, we like to bring the kids to fall festivals.  We find it safer than trick or treating.  But, the girls still want to do it.  Today, we have annual fall festival to go to.  The have games, hayrides and food.  This will be the first time the people, who know us, get to see Elana.

For Whom the Bell Tolls

We are heading to see Kayla like we do every Sunday.  Angie like to use the toll roads.  After two tolls, she noticed the toll reader was missing.  It might have dropped or is in a bag.  We do no not have time or an area to pull off and look.  We have been paying for the rest of tolls in cash.  Angie found out she can call and let them know what happened.

Things That go Running Scared into the Night

Our trashcans have managed to stay up for the last couple of days.  I think that is because the bears are in hiding.  Yesterday was the first bear hunt in like 20 years.  I'd prefer to see my trashcans knocked over again.  I will know that this bear survived the massacre.  So far, 207 bears have been killed.

I Survived the Zombie Attack

I spent the rest of Saturday creating the display for work.  I made a Grim Reaper using a skull I bought last year and a trash bag.  I started a scarecrow.  I used some of my old clothes and filled it with bubble wrap.  For the head, I decided to use one of the paper mache heads.  I will probably add a straw hat. I will have to see how the heads turn out.  Finally, I shaped heads out of chicken wire and then used newspaper for the paper mache covering.  When we get home, I plan to paint them.

Zombie Attack!

As mentioned in the previous posting, I am having a decoration contest at work.  I am going to create zombie heads using chicken wire and paper mache.  I want to build a scarecrow.  I think I can use cardboard, clothing and straw.  I'm going to try and hang evil flying things using toilet paper rolls.  I also want to make a Grim Reaper.  Finally, I plan to use streamers in some sort of design. I hope to enlist Kiersten and Michelle.  I don't know if they will help.  Lots to do.  I am trying to keep my mind off of the contest.  They announce this week.

Halloween Contest

It's another year, another Halloween.  Our department is is holding another Halloween decoration contest.  I won last year.  So, I am trying for a repeat.  I want to make paper mache zombie heads, a scarecrow, and some other ideas.  I will post some pictures later.

A Rest in the Afternoon

The retreat is over.  I am now back at home with the family.  Elana seems happy to see me.  She is on the couch.  Sleep is creeping in.  That means I can rest a little.  I have to start working soon. I have a major project to work on.

Donation Fail!

I had a chance to give money to a charity of my choice.  They were going to draw like 20 names and donate money to a charity of the employee's choice.  I picked Reece's Rainbow.  It was not to be.

Another Day, Another Meeting

It's day two of our retreat.  We have another meeting to look forward to.  After that we will eat lunch, take group pictures and then head home.
