Taxis: The art of taking a cab in China

On our first trip to Guangzhou, we had the luck of using the taxi service.  We did not know where we were and we needed to get back to our hotel.  After our day of walking around we decided it was time to track down a taxi.  We saw an area where people were waiting to catch a cab and waited with them.  They caught their cab and ours should have been next.

We were wrong.  When the cab came up, a person went right up to it and got in.  We just sat there with our mouths open.  Another cab approached and the same thing happened.  Finally, we became aggressive.  The cab approached.  A person was eyeing it.  We were determined to catch this cab.  Angie had me run interference, while she jumped into the cab.  Once secure I jumped in.

If you go to China and try to catch a cab, you must be aggressive.  The way it works is dog eat dog.  If you hesitate, someone will just jump right on in there.
