$20 Burger: It probably does not taste like it

When we left China on our third adoption, we had to do so through Hong Kong.  We thought this would be interesting.  Unfortunately, we arrived at night and we shuttled to the hotel that was located right next to the airport.  In addition to this, it was in the middle of nowhere.  We should have got someting to eat at the train station in HK, but we did not know the surroundings of the hotel.

Once we arrived, we noticed that we would not be leaving the hotel on any siteseeing missions.  After we had settled down, we went down to the lobby to search for food.  What we found was shocking.  The prices were the standard for a 4 star hotel.  The burgers were $20.  Pizza was around the same price.  We could not pay these prices.  We turned and went right back upstairs.  We subsisted on crackers and other snack items.

The next day, we found out that in addition to the high food prices, our usual breakfast buffet was not included in our stay.  That would be another $30 to $50.  We decided to wait for the airport, where we rushed to the nearest McDonald's and ate our breakfast for a fraction of what the hotel was charging.

If you ever take a train to HK and stay at the Marriot, near the airport, remember to eat at the station or take a loan out at the bank.
