Jiangxi Lap Child: Flying home with your Baby

So, when you fly a child home from China, they either need their own seat or they will be a lap child.  I guess, if you are lucky, you can get a bulk head seat that they can set up some sort of crib.  We were not that lucky.  Compared to others, I will say we were lucky.  Our child was the most well behaved on the plane.

We got on the plane in Guangzhou.  After setting up our bags, we settled into our seats.  Michelle was sitting in Angie's lap.  We were concerned that the flight would be an issue for her.  We have heard other screaming children on flights.  Taking off, we had no issues.  After awhile, she came to me.  Eventually she let us know it was feeding time.  By letting us know, she started to cry.  We had to arrange for some hot water for the formula.

Angie gathered the stuff and went to get hot water.  With Michelle, we learned that she was very temperamental about how hot her formula was.  She would not take it cold.  Even warm was not good enough for her.  Basically, it had to be scalding hot or she would not be happy.  At times, Angie would think it was too hot and that was the way she liked it.

The only other time she cried was when it was changing time.  I would gather the diaper, Michelle, wipes and head to the bathroom.  Anyone who travels will know that bathrooms on a plane are small.  There is barely any room for a person to do their business.  Try doing that with a baby.  I believe they might have had some sort of a baby changing table.  It was still an ordeal.

The rest of the trip, Michelle was a happy child.  She slept and ate.  Some of the children coming home to America were not as happy.  Either their ears were bothering them or they were still bonding with their new families.  It was this adoption that further inspired us to adopt again from China.  It went smoothly compared to our US adoption.  We did not have parents threatening to kill us.
