Cantonese

When you adopt in China, or at least for us, you have to finish the process in Guangzhou, China.  It is a Province in the middle section of China.  The Pearl River flows through it.  The hotel we stayed at two of the three adoptions looks over that river.

On arrival, you have to deplane on the tarmac and catch a bus to the terminal.  Guangzhou has a temperature similar to Florida.  The terminal is an old style airport.  In China, alot of the airports have been refurbished.  On our last trip, I believe they were in the process of refurbishing.  I will know shortly.  Once in the terminal, you make your way to baggage.

On our trip to the hotel, our guide gave us a description of the area.  She said that Cantonese is mainly spoke here.  She explained it as a southern form of Mandarin.  She went on to say "the Cantonese eat everything, dog, cow, chicken, etc".

With that, it becomes hard to go out to eat.  If you can't speak the language and you do not have your guide, you can not rely on someone being able to speak English.  From what we encountered, a lot of Chinese do not speak English.  Mainly the young and the store clerks who cater to Westerners know it.

One day, we decide to explore.  Across from the island, there is a open air market.  They sell herbs, plants, animals, ets.  When I say animals, they had snakes, turtles and a variety of fish.  I would say most of the things they were selling was for food.  As were walking, this woman approaches us.  She has one of those small dogs.  The thing that we found puzzling was that she was carrying it in a plastic bag.  Her hand cradled the dog and maybe she just didn't want her hand to smell like dog(it was alive).  After what our guide told us, we did not know what to think.  It was better to think that it was her pet than the alternative.
